In the 1997 comedy Tout doit disparaître, we delve into the chaotic life of Robert Millard, a man who has built an industrial empire on the foundations of deceit. Married to the wealthy and temperamental Irene, Robert has managed to juggle his infidelities with an air of confidence—until his latest affair with the alluring secretary Eve threatens to unravel everything. The stakes rise dramatically when Irene, suspicious of her husband's antics, hires a detective-photographer, Mr. Colle, to capture incriminating evidence. As the walls close in, Robert finds himself in a desperate bid to maintain his lifestyle while simultaneously attempting to appease his increasingly vindictive wife.
The film is a humorous exploration of the lengths to which people will go to protect their secrets and the absurdities of marital fidelity. Robert’s character, a blend of charming rogue and hapless victim, provides a comedic lens through which we can examine themes of loyalty, greed, and the consequences of deception.
