Synopsis

In the quirky adventure-comedy The Thirty Million Dollar Rush (1987), treasury employee Fatty, played by the ever-charismatic Eric Tsang, stumbles upon an unexpected windfall—a staggering 30 million Hong Kong dollars that have been left untouched due to a clerical oversight. Rather than reporting the discovery, Fatty devises a daring plan to seize the cash before it meets its fiery fate in the incinerator. To pull off this audacious heist, he recruits his loyal friends Mark (Mark Cheng) and the feisty Tomboy (Anglie Leung), but the stakes get higher when they enlist the help of Baldy (Karl Maka), a recently released thief who has his own agenda for the loot, especially when it comes to impressing the lovely Siu-Fung (Paula Tsui).

As the motley crew attempts to navigate their way through a series of comedic blunders and misadventures, they find themselves pursued by an eccentric inspector (Ching Wong), whose short temper adds an extra layer of chaos to their plans. Adding an unexpected twist is Sister Maria (Brigitte Lin), a determined nun who sees the potential for redemption in their mischief. The film explores themes of friendship, ambition, and the moral dilemmas that arise when tempted by easy money. With its blend of slapstick humor and heartfelt moments, The Thirty Million Dollar Rush is a delightful romp that showcases the lengths people will go for friendship and the allure of a quick fortune, making it a charming watch for those who enjoy lighthearted capers infused with a touch of mischief.
