Synopsis

In the gritty crime drama That's It, released in 2015, we follow the harrowing journey of Samao Daikoku, a man ensnared in the shadows of Japan's underbelly. Struggling to escape a life that has long since lost its luster, Samao's fate takes a dramatic turn when he breaks into a coin locker owned by the notorious Daikichi Ebisu, a key player in a dangerous criminal organization. What he initially seeks—a stash of gold—quickly spirals into a deeper, more perilous entanglement when he discovers a hard disk filled with sensitive information about society's most vulnerable: runaways, the homeless, bankrupt individuals, and sex workers. This discovery sets off a chain reaction that not only puts Samao's life in jeopardy but also leads him into the crosshairs of the sadistic gang boss, Kan Senju.

As Samao navigates the treacherous landscape of betrayal and survival, he finds unexpected connections, particularly with Ami Nanmu, a resilient prostitute whose own struggles mirror his. Their interactions illuminate the film's poignant themes of desperation and humanity, showcasing how personal histories can bind individuals together in the harshest of circumstances. The narrative unfolds with a sense of urgency, as Samao is tortured not only physically but also mentally, confronting the demons of his past that refuse to be buried. That's It is a gripping exploration of desperation, choice, and the fight for redemption, making it a compelling watch for those drawn to the complexities of crime and the human condition.
