Synopsis

In the charmingly comedic 1960 film School for Scoundrels, we are introduced to the woefully inept Henry Palfrey, a man constantly belittled by his conniving coworkers and snubbed by unhelpful restaurant staff. His life takes a turn for the worse when he becomes the target of the unscrupulous Raymond Delauney, a dapper cad determined to win the affections of the lovely April, the very woman who has captured Henry's heart. Feeling utterly defeated and desperate to reclaim his dignity, Henry makes the bold decision to enroll in the College of Lifemanship, a peculiar institution that promises to arm him with the skills to outwit his adversaries and finally win April’s love.

As Henry navigates the zany world of self-improvement, the film masterfully blends wit and satire, humorously exploring themes of masculinity, social status, and the often ridiculous lengths to which one will go for love. The quirky instructors and eccentric fellow students at the college provide plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, while Henry’s earnest attempts to transform from a timid figure into a suave gentleman make for an engaging character arc. With a delightful mix of absurdity and heart, School for Scoundrels stands out as a timeless comedy that not only entertains but also resonates with anyone who has ever felt outmatched in the game of love and life.
