Synopsis

In the comedic film Malesh Ehna Benetbahdel, released in 2005, we follow the misadventures of Al-Qarmouty, a humble coffee shop owner in Nazlet El-Semman. His life takes an unexpected turn when he sends his son, Wahid, to Baghdad on a seemingly innocuous mission: delivering a shipment of mangoes to his friend Abu Adnan. However, Wahid's journey becomes a nightmare when he is arrested for speaking out against Saddam Hussein, thrusting Al-Qarmouty into a desperate race against time as U.S. forces prepare to invade Iraq. The film expertly balances humor and tension, showcasing the lengths a father will go to for love and familial duty.

As Al-Qarmouty embarks on his quest to rescue Wahid, the movie intertwines poignant themes of courage, sacrifice, and the often absurd nature of political turmoil. The colorful cast of characters he encounters along the way adds depth and levity to the narrative, highlighting the resilience of ordinary people amidst extraordinary circumstances. Malesh Ehna Benetbahdel cleverly uses comedy to explore serious issues, illustrating how laughter can be a powerful tool in the face of adversity. With its engaging storyline and relatable characters, this film offers a unique perspective on a tumultuous period, making it an entertaining watch for those who appreciate humor intertwined with heartfelt moments.
