Synopsis
In the 2010 comedy Desechos, we delve into the chaotic lives of Kiko (Eric French) and Marcelo (Adrià Collado), two friends desperately navigating the murky waters of financial hardship in sunny Ibiza. With the economic crisis looming overhead, they hatch a plan to alleviate their money woes by renting out a room in their cramped apartment. However, their hopes are quickly dashed as they realize that their so-called spare room is little more than a glorified closet, setting the stage for a series of comically awkward encounters with potential tenants. Just when they think they've hit rock bottom, Soto (Fernando Tejero), a peculiar character with an air of mystery, arrives on the scene, eager to move in despite the less-than-ideal living conditions.
As the story unfolds, Desechos cleverly explores themes of friendship, desperation, and the absurdities of modern life. The dynamic between Kiko and Marcelo serves as a poignant reminder of how far people will go to maintain their livelihoods, while Soto’s eccentricity adds a layer of unpredictability that keeps viewers guessing. Though the film's humor may not appeal to everyone, it captures the essence of human resilience in the face of adversity, making it a quirky yet heartfelt exploration of the lengths people will go to find a solution to their problems. With its offbeat characters and comedic misadventures, Desechos is a lighthearted romp through the trials and tribulations of friendship and survival in an economically strained world.
