Synopsis
In the quirky comedy 12 Golden Ducks, released in 2015, we follow the misadventures of Future Chang, a once-popular gigolo portrayed by Sandra Ng, who finds himself heartbroken and adrift in Thailand. After a period of self-indulgence, he receives a wake-up call from Mr. Lo, his high school teacher, who encourages him to reclaim his life and return to Hong Kong. With the support of his well-meaning friend Ricky, a gym trainer, Future embarks on a rigorous journey to regain his physique and re-enter the male escort scene. However, upon his return, he discovers that the city's landscape has dramatically shifted, along with the rules of the “duck” trade he once thrived in.
As Future adapts to this new reality, he finds himself catering to an unexpected clientele at a local elderly women's nursery, where the demand for companionship takes on a comedic yet poignant twist. Alongside his eccentric friends—Dick Wide, Nebula, and Broker Chan—Future navigates a world where the quest for happiness can be found in the most unlikely places, such as a neighborhood Thai restaurant. The film cleverly intertwines themes of resilience, friendship, and the evolving nature of affection, all wrapped in a lighthearted narrative. While 12 Golden Ducks may not have garnered critical acclaim, it offers a fresh take on love and companionship, inviting viewers to laugh at the absurdities of life and the lengths one might go to for connection.
